A prominent African-American attorney kills himself in front of the firm he works for. While the news and police were watching him hold the gun to his head in his parked car, MJ suggested they focus on the personal side of the story...suicide in the African-American community. Shortly thereafter, Sheldon called MJ to offer an anonymous inside scoop. It turned out he worked for the same firm. MJ agreed to come by. Sheldon made them some etouffee, and then he proceeded to tell her how hard it is for Black men in corporate America (where he says they do not want to see African-American men succeed). MJ counters his statement that African-American men have it harder than any other demographic by pointing out African-American women are not only smothered by America like African-American men, but smothered by African-American men as well. She says single, Black women have it harder than any demographic. Sheldon responds to her passionate rebuttal by telling her she's sexy. This is off putting to MJ, but Sheldon clarifies that it is her passion and mind that make her so sexy (though he does immediately after comment on some of her physical beauty). MJ excuses herself to the bathroom, where she calls her doctor's office about having had an orgasm out of the blue (turned out it was a natural side effect of the shots she was taking in preparation of having her eggs extracted). After dinner Sheldon asks MJ if she is single and says he would like to speak with her upon his return from traveling overseas...to discuss the idea of them seeing each other...MJ is agreeable to this...
The next day, Val calls MJ to say she's concerned, because she received a weird call from Lisa about having an argument with MJ and how David still loves MJ. MJ agrees to meet Val at Lisa's house. By the time MJ gets there, Val has given Lisa some medication and suggests an emergency detention if MJ thinks Lisa may be a danger to herself. MJ says that could ruin Lisa's career, and the two go into Lisa's house to discuss Lisa...yes...in her own home. MJ kind of jokes about non-medical reasons Lisa may be behaving like this, and Lisa walks in on the conversation. They have yet another blow-up. Lisa says MJ is selfish, has everything (including David's love, despite her pushing him away), and yet complains about everything. MJ says she is done with it and is finally going to focus on helping herself.
Kara runs into Gael in a store, despite trying to avoid him after spotting him down the aisle. He speaks to her in Spanish, and this of course causes her to end the conversation quickly. But it is clear she's starting to soften towards him. He later texts her in Spanish, and she calls him and then agrees to meet him for dinner.
Now, at the beginning of the episode, MJ started taking the shots to have her eggs extracted. When leaving her house, she finds David waiting for her outside. He tells her he changed his life for a woman he doesn't even know, and they both feel trapped. He says he wants to know from MJ if the two of them still have a chance, but MJ shuts that idea down. But that all changes at the end of the episode. With 30 minutes left until it's time for her eggs to be extracted, MJ calls David to ask him to meet her at her place. When she gets there she says to him,"Once upon a time you said all I had to do was ask...I'm asking." Yep...she wants his baby and he's willing to give it to her...They have sex right at the moment she reaches peak ovulation....Maybe she's not as open to the conversation Sheldon wanted to have...
