African-Americans are the largest consumers of both television and social media. We often utilize social media to express our reviews of television shows and film. Furthermore, we often look to social media posts of others to gauge our interest in watching a television show or seeing a film. Perhaps this is out of necessity, because there isn't one source for reviews of African-American television and film from an African-American collective. Black Media Review Collective (BMRC) will create one social media source for such reviews, utilizing video and text.
BMRC will serve as the go-to site for African-Americans to receive reviews of African-American television and film from other African-American consumers. More importantly, BMRC will serve as a vehicle for African-American adult consumers to both voice their honest opinion about portrayals of African-Americans in television and film and have access to the authentic thoughts and criticism of the portrayals of African-Americans from other African-American adult consumers. BMRC has the potential to serve both as a forum to discuss the impact certain portrayals of African-Americans in television and film have on the African-American community, and as a tool to allow the African-American community as a collective to impact the portrayal of African-Americans in the media!
