Finished Marvel's Luke Cage on Netflix this morning, and I loved every moment of it. With the three series so far leading up to the Defenders being, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and now Luke Cage, the latter is far superior. I may be biased due to the fact the cast is 99% African American, but the way they represented themselves made me even prouder than I already am.
The soundtrack alone is so serious that it would bring new life to a vegetable. Some of those beats were sick, and that freestyle in episode 12 was fire! The way it took its time to give so much detail and attention to everyone's backstory was brilliant. And the women in the show, hot damn! Not only were they all strong, but rocked the hell out of that natural beautiful hair of theirs. I was smiling ear to ear at times, cheering on my couch, throwing my fist in the air. I was so excited my neighbors came a knocking on my door asking to join in. Ok that was a joke, but I would've let them in if they came. I'm so happy with how the show turned out on so many levels, and it gives the middle finger to ridiculous stereotypes that plague ours streets of Black Men in American.
On a few occasions it went in a direction I didn't think was best with what's currently going on in our country (even though they finished shooting 6 months ago), but I stuck in there to see that it was all for a greater revelation. The praise of Harlem, Black Leadership, the history of our culture, politics, and corruption all came to the forefront, in a somewhat realistic narrative that speaks volumes. Plus the way it seeded itself within the rest of the MCU was spot on! As a diehard Marvel Comics fan, and an African American I couldn't be any more happier. This is the BEST Marvel Netflix Series so far! YOU need to watch this! Who knew a big Black Man in a Hoodie could be a hero.
