I took a television hiatus for nearly a year, and when I came back I totally forgot about Instant Mom and The Soul Man. But this week I put them back on my ever growing DVR list, and they are both hilarious!!
Instant Mom airs on NickMom, a 4 hour nightly block of comedic programming on the Nick Jr channel. You can catch episodes on Nickelodeon and TVLand. Stephanie Phillips (Tia Mowry-Hardict) finds herself with three children after marrying Charlie Phillips (Michael Boatman). Sheryl Lee Ralph plays Maggie Turner, Stephanie's mother and "instant" grandmother of Charlie's three children. Gabby (Sydney Park), James (Tylen Jacob Williams), and Aaron (Damarr Calhoun) are the three children. If you're wondering why Williams reminds you of Tyler James Williams (Chris from "Everybody Hates Chris"), it's because they are brothers! They have another brother, Tyrel Jackson Williams, who currently plays Leo Dooley on Disney XD's "Lab Rats."
The Soul Man is a TV Land series starring Cedrick the Entertainer, as Reverend Sherman Boyce Ballentine, and Niecy Nash as his wife, Lolli Ballentine. Wesley Jonathan play's Boyce's younger brother, "Stamps." Sherri Shepard has become a recurring cast member as Nikki, Boyce's cousin and treasurer for the church. The premise of the show is Boyce has decided to leave his R&B stardom behind to follow in his father's footsteps by becoming a preacher. With Ced, Niecy, and Sherri, you know the laughs never stop!
