First, can I say, this was the longest night ever! How did Mary Jane manage to go to so many locations all in the same night?! She got wasted at home with Lisa (including passing time drunk dialing poor, innocent Nichelle), went and crashed David's dinner party, picked up Kara, more drinking at home with Kara this time, ends up at Avery's house giving her advice on Andre, then returns home and almost gets inseminated by Lisa with David's "wrongly frozen" sperm! Really?!
Okay...but besides all that...
How do you throw in Niecy purposefully having a half Filipino baby, because she thinks she is ugly. I get it, colorism is still very much an issue within our community, BUT...I feel like this was just thrown at us and then discarded. If you are going to touch on a topic of this nature, why not go deeper with it? Why not continue the story line? After this scene (which took place early on in the 2 hour finale), the closest we get back to the subject is when Niecy tells her aunt her baby is as beautiful as she was in her dream. If you want to start this conversation, why not bring it back in with Niecy's little sister who appears later in the episode? Here's the beautiful, bi-racial girl Niecy seems to think has an easier life than her. That could be a deeper story line that could even go into the relationships of half-siblings, especially when an absentee father is ever present in the younger sibling's life. However, I did hear an opinion that it was great that BMJ would even touch on the issue of colorism. It is nice that they touched on it, but it would have been great if they dug into it. It seemed unfinished? Incomplete?
OAN...soooo... David confronts Mary Jane about stealing his sperm (some friend you are Lisa, right? Or was she right to tell him? lol)!! Cue 2nd part of the 2-hour finale...
So the second episode was so hard to watch. Mary Jane proceeded to drunkenly embarrass herself in ways many women can probably relate to (which is what made it hard to watch...hard to watch ourselves).
- David says he's flattered MJ would want to have his child, and MJ turns it on him...leading to the whole "second-guessing" what a guy says to you when he's trying to be complimentary. <hides face...guilty>.
-MJ essentially pushes David out, but then chases after him in what probably seemed like a "light bulb" moment...a moment of clarity and revelation...he's the one, and once I tell him he'll agree and we'll be happily ever after! But then he's like...you're crazy and my feelings for you have subsided <hides face again...>.
-MJ and Lisa have the brilliant idea of MJ going to David's home and attempting to "get her man" yet again. However, by the time MJ gets up there she's forgotten the sweet one-liner Lisa came up with and goes on a "ride or die chick" rant? Really MJ? "Ride or die chick"? I don't know if I was more embarrassed for her b/c of the use of the phrase or the fact that she and David just discussed how he felt she left him when he was down (some "ride or die chick"). O, but it goes even further down hill. MJ slips up and reveals to David she lied about not knowing Andre and slept with him. Then MJ goes into a list of things she did for David (laundry, letting him live with her), and he hits her with: 1) never asked her to do those things, 2) he always had money, just wanted to be independent of his parent (BOOM!), 3) he was making moves and she moved too soon (OUCH!). But the biggest hurt...MJ: Would you have married me if I had waited? David: You already know the answer. MJ: Just say it. David: Don't want to live in the past. UGH...I felt that in my core...no really, I've literally been there and felt that in real life!
O, and somehow Kara convinces Mary Jane to go to Avery and apologize for being Andrae's mistress (yes, it is still the same night, and thus late). Avery actually lets them in, and MJ gets so comfortable she suggests Avery lose the pillow when pleasuring Andrae. Ummm...yea...too far. But what I did appreciate about this story line was Mary Jane seems to want Andrae to go back to Avery, and indeed he does. I would not be able to deal if she was still messing with him when the season concluded. Though I suspect the Daniels will be in season 2.
So Andrae returns home...MJ gives David his sperm...and David's girlfriend is pregnant?! What?! Nooooooo!!! I want David and MJ to make it work, and I can see it in David's eyes that he does too. Besides, remember from earlier episodes, David's girlfriend is probably the girl he went to dinner with the night of the hurricane, whom he had just been seeing for a couple of months. C'mon, we know he still loves MJ! Maybe she won't be pregnant, or it won't be his. I for one am team MJ & David. They make my heart flutter. <3
