Being Mary Jane Recap S. 2, E. 3

The episode starts with MJ coaching Niecy on having a healthier lifestyle. I'll admit, I was slightly motivated. See you in the morning treadmill! LOL.

MJ undergoes hormone injections to freeze her eggs on her show. I wonder if it's really just for the show, though. Someone who I assume is one of the show's producers tells Kara it wasn't easy to get the network to cover MJ's medical expenses for the treatment. We know last season she was freezing sperm, this year it's her eggs. At least part of it has to be self-motivated and not just for ratings.

Some side plots...Niecy goes all into MJ things while she is out, including watching video from the cameras she has setup in her home. There's a moment where her invasion of MJ's privacy leads to finding bottles of alcohol in her bathroom. There is also a moment on the video where MJ is seen drinking while alone. This will apparently come into play in the next episode when Niecy seems to accuse her aunt of having a drinking problem.

Also, Patrick and Paul, Sr. have a moment while practicing their golf swings. Paul, Sr. wants to help Patrick get on his feet, but Patrick's pride is getting in the way of him accepting help.

Meanwhile, PJ is invited to a private reception for some type of millionaire's club, and the speaker is a former attorney MJ's been wanting to interview since her CNN days...Shazza Zulu...ehem, sorry...A Different World flashback...I mean Sheldon. PJ says his +1 is being used by his business partner (he's invested in the cannabis business just like he suggested in episode 1 of this season...which apparently is how he ended up with an invitation to the reception). MJ couldn't even get a ticket from the mayor. So per PJ's suggestion, while in a compromising position (was that necessary BET?), MJ reached out to David for tickets.

David only has a +1 and offers it to MJ. She of course asks if his baby mama/live-in girlfriend would be okay with it. He said he's sure she will be. Well...she was in the room. She definitely wasn't thrilled about it, but we learn this relationship is on some rocky grounds. She's going to a conference a day early to meet with an ex from Australia that she dated for 3 years. To give him AT LEAST closure...and apparently maybe more...as much more as she thinks David gave MJ that night in the hotel. She's not believing they only talked.

At the reception MJ meets Sheldon and asks for an interview. He says no. She says she doesn't take no for an answer, and he says neither does he. Ooooo...that's the last we see of Mr. Sheldon, but IMDB says he will be in 10 episodes this season. What's going to be going on there??

After the reception David kisses MJ. After a moment, MJ puts a stop to it and basically says she refuses to go on that roller coaster ride again with him. The one where he leaves again and she's there just waiting for him to return. She goes home...but it ain't over...she gets up, gets back dressed, and heads out...

I'm not going to lie. Last season I soooo wanted MJ and David to get it together, but during this scene I was saying out loud...Nooooo, don't do it, reconsider...LOL

Cut to a love scene...but...it's a much bigger and darker gentleman. Far from David. He has no name except "Cuddy Buddy" (per her phone when she texts him she's home). He told her he likes what they are but could offer more if she needs it. She declines, opts to have security walk her out instead of him, and simply tells him to call her when he's back in town (does that mean he doesn't live in Atlanta or he's going on a trip?). Ok...I did a little digging. The actor's name is Thomas Q. Jones (former NFL running back turned actor), and his character does indeed have a name...Brandon. We will see him in 2 more episodes this season.
