Wow! So much happened this episode. Hope I don't miss anything. Where to begin...
Let's start with the Hapstall siblings case. There was a warrant for their arrest for the murder of their aunt, the star witness. When Annalise went to the precinct, Catherine lied and said Caleb was with her at the house all night. Bonnie and Asher learn that the house staff was sent home early by Caleb. So they could not confirm whether the two siblings were home the entire night and would not lie for them. Frank and Laurel got evidence that the D.A.'s first run for DNA evidence came up with nothing. They deleted the first report and ran another report where they came up with, or planted, Caleb's DNA. Bonnie's test of Caleb's guilt by lying and saying there was footage of him running a block from the scene of the murder seemed to prove Caleb was innocent, because instead of explaining why he was nearby he said it was further proof he was being framed because he runs the same route (nowhere near there). This was after both of the siblings finally admitted Caleb was not home all night (Annalise agreed with Wes' offer to play the "puppy" and work Catherine to tell the truth about Caleb's whereabouts that night). Annalise provided evidence of the deleted DNA report that didn't show any DNA from Caleb, and the judge dismissed the case...leaving only the case for the murder of their parents.
Then there's Nate's pretrial hearing. Annalise and Eve met in a car prior to court where Annalise tried to micromanage, and Eve reminded her it was her case. Prosecutor Emily Sinclair began by suggesting to the judge that Eve and Annalise have a relationship and are colluding. Eve of course denies this and says Annalise is just 1 of 1500 classmates from Harvard Law School. The hearing proceeds and Sinclair calls Annalise to the stand as a hostile witness, giving her the ability to ask leading questions (which the judge agreed with when she overruled Eve's objection to the questioning). Sinclair essentially suggested that Annalise has a bad enough temper to have commited the murder of her husband who impregnated his student. Annalise clapped back and seemingly put Sinclair in her place, but something about Sinclair's face wasn't right. No embarrassment, no anger...why...well because as she said, Annalise's rant proved how bad her temper was...bad enough to commit murder! Though I'm not sure I see the direct correlation between having a bad temper and murdering your husband...but I guess so...
Then when Nate refused to lie on the stand and corroborate the story that he had an altercation with Sam the night he was murdered (to explain why his prints were on Sam's ring)...throwing in he would be happy to get on the stand and reveal that Annalise framed him and Eve was in on it...Eve followed in Sinclair's footsteps and also went in on Annalise. She suggested Annalise killed her husband on her own, throwing in Annalise was faking love with Sam and was upset Sam shattered their sham marriage, and slept with Nate the night of Sam's murder, in order to have an alibi, and had Nate's prints placed on Sam's ring. Seeing as the pretrial was to determine if there was enough evidence against Nate for a trial, and all the questions and testimony were focused on Annalise possibly being guilty of Sam's murder, the judge dismissed the case against Nate.
Annalise took the questioning by Eve really hard, to the point she got into it with Bonnie. It started out about Annalise being sick of having to clean up Bonnie's mess, and then Bonnie telling her she didn't really want Bonnie to be able to do things on her own. Then it turned into Bonnie saying she killed Rebecca for Annalise and Annalise telling her she needs to stop thinking she owes Annalise for saving her. Annalise even went on to say Bonnie and the rest of them need to be saved from Annalise and maybe it would be good for everyone if she was locked up.
Continuing on the personal story lines... When Asher walks in on the students discussing Sam's murder, Connor tries to cover it up by saying they were discussing Oliver's HIV status, because Connor didn't want to wait to have sex with him. This blows up in his face with Oliver comes by the house and Asher brings up his status to him, revealing Connor shared Oliver's status with all of them. Wanting to make things even, Connor later asks Oliver to reveal the thing he thought would hurt him. Oliver tells Connor that he contracted HIV after his friends got him to go to a bar, after being distraught about Connor cheating on him, and he had several shots and a one night stand. Connor left the room feeling it was his fault Oliver contracted HIV.
Laurel and Frank had a semi-steamy scene together. When Laurel went by Frank's apartment to supposedly tell him she aced her Civ Pro exam, he told her she came for more than that and proceeded to hold her against the wall while telling her what she really came for...detail by detail...But then, after getting her all hot and bothered, he shows her the door after telling her if she's interested in him she should get to know him, because he's no gigolo.
Meanwhile, back at Annalise's house, Eve stops by. Annalise tells her she feels like she was personally attacking her on the stand, and Eve said it may be because she's still in love with Annalise. Annalise tells her things were so real with the two of them she got scared and ran away from it (to Sam), and that being with her was the most beautiful experience in her life. They make love, and the next morning Eve asks Annalise to consider moving to New York to be with her. Nate was outside watching them say goodbye to each other, including the kiss they exchanged.
As for Michaela's love life, she gets convinced to go on a date with the random guy she and Connor met at the courthouse. I knew something was up with him when he came up to them asking to use their phones. He directed the question to both of them, but Michaela thought he was eyeing Connor and said he has a boyfriend, to which he indicated he was actually interested in her. She said she wasn't interested, but later Oliver convinced her to give the guy a chance. Well...shortly after that, Wes took a photo that was on top of Rebecca's belongings that the landlord put out. Who's in the photo with Rebecca? The guy Michaela is on a date with. I suspect he's the one Rebecca was texting on Michaela's phone...hence he asked to borrow Michaela and Connor's phones at the courthouse.
Then there's Asher and this blackmail situation with Sinclair. He attempted to rub the loss on Nate's pretrial hearing in Sinclair's face, but Sinclair was unmoved and told him after he makes love to Bonnie to let his boss know Sinclair is now the prosecutor on the Hapstall case!
And as for that 2 month foreshadow scene with Annalise dying on the floor in the Hapstall home...the beginning of the episode reveals Wes wasn't the only one there with Annalise. Laurel, Michaela, and Connor were also there. At the end of the episode we see them running out of the house after going back in to get Connor (who was with the dying Annalise telling her it was her fault). And who's dead on the bottom of the steps outside...PROSECUTOR SINCLAIR!!!
